When it comes to making Synthwave or 80s-style music, having that classic analog synth sound is key.
The problem is analog synthesizers are insanely expensive. So you're going to have to go with plugin emulations of analog synthesizers...
But which plugins are the best?
Well, in my opinion, Syntronik 2 is hands down the best, and I cover why in this video.
Not only does it provide you an INSANE selection of analog-modeled synths (54 to be exact), but Syntronik 2 also recreates these sounds with fantastic accuracy thanks to it's proprietary "DRIFT" technology.
IK’s DRIFT technology varies the phase, color and pitch of the sampled oscillators to keep them moving just like the real analog oscillators do. Much more than simple detuning or even multiple-source modulation, DRIFT emulates the way real analog circuits behave over time. The result is the unmistakable sound of analog that is the origin of any classic synthesizer sound.
Not only that, but you also receive 71 different vintage effects that you can use to tweak and adjust your synth sounds.

I just found the absolute best virtual synth plugin for creating synthwave music
0:04
or if you're just looking to recreate authentic 70s and 80s synthesizer sounds
0:09
this plugin is for you. And the plugin I'm talking about is called Syntronic 2
0:14
Here's what I was able to put together with just some of these presets. So I've been using Syntronic 1 for a while and it was great, but they recently came out
0:57
with Syntronic 2, which is like 10 times better, and it is absolutely amazing because it's actually
1:03
54 different synthesizers in one plugin. You can see all the different synthesizers you get here
1:10
and they're all based on authentic synthesizers that were created in the 70s and 80s and widely
1:17
used, which makes them great for synthwave music, for any kind of retro music, or just if you're
1:21
wanting to add some og synthesizer sounds to your modern productions. And I believe there are actually 33 different actual instruments included in
1:30
here. But the reason you come up with 54 different sounds is some of these are
1:34
actually multiple synthesizers combined into one. So like this mini mod here
1:40
I think this is actually a couple of different Moog synthesizers built into one
1:44
here. And so you can see, you get all these awesome presets
1:48
So I'll go through and break down all the awesome elements of this plugin in a second
1:52
But first, let's just get an overview of what this sounds like
1:56
So if you go to OrpheusAudioAcademy.com slash Syntronic2, you can find it here
2:02
It's by IK Multimedia where you can purchase it. And you can see all the different synthesizers that comes with it
2:07
So here are the 22 classic synths that were included in the original version
2:11
And they just added 11 new ones. That one takes me back to playing SimCity 2000
2:48
All right, pretty amazing. Now, before I cover all the different elements of this plugin, I just want to let you know
2:57
about my free synthwave sample pack that you can grab in the description below
3:01
And this has a ton of different drum samples and effect samples that you can add to your
3:06
synthwave or 80s style music productions. And like I said, this is completely free
3:11
So just click in the description below to download those free samples. All right
3:15
So first off, here we are inside of Syntronic 2. And you can see all the different synthesizers here on the side any of this awesome preset browser here
3:24
You get this is massive. I believe it's actually 200 gigabytes worth of sounds here of have presets and over 5 Presets in here so you get tons and tons of sounds and of course you can tweak these as well but these are amazing presets that already sound great They already sound like the actual og synthesizers
3:42
they came from. So you can quickly start making awesome music. And so if we look back at these samples here
3:50
you can sort them by a lot of different awesome filters. So first off, you can filter by module
3:56
So if I just wanted to look at the TO3 samples, I can just click on this and now it's only displaying those samples from that particular synthesizer
4:06
So that's great because different synthesizers have different strengths. And so you can kind of go through these and sort by the ones you want
4:13
Different generations. So you can look at Syntronic 1 or Syntronic 2. And then we have all these different categories
4:19
We can look at just arpeggios, chromatic, drums, piano, sound effects, bass, lead, pad
4:26
pluck, sweep, and so on. And you can also sort by timbre here. So you can have aggressive, basic, buzzy, so on and so on
4:33
So all these are, so what sound, whatever sound you're looking for, since there's so many presets in here, this is really helpful for finding the mood that you're looking to
4:41
create, the type of sound you want with your synth. And so this is actually very, very handy
4:46
It's also style if you're looking for more og, antique, atmospheric, so on
4:52
Also genre, there's kind of different genres of synths in here you can look into
4:57
And of course you also have mood and you also have your user presets here if you create any
5:04
And you also have a favorites folder so you can look in here for any favorites that you've saved
5:09
Let's just look at some of these real quick. Pretty cool
5:21
And then we got pads in here. Pretty awesome
5:36
So it could be here all day if I was going through all these different presets
5:39
So let's move on. There's also the edit panel here. and so this is really awesome this wasn't in syntronic one but is here in syntronic two
5:47
so this gives you the ability to really dial it in your sound you can edit your filter your envelope
5:53
your oscillators and you have this large modulation matrix here so you can modulate just about
5:59
anything you want to modulate so for example if you look at this bottom parameter here here we
6:05
have lfo2 is going to be modulating filter parameter one so i believe filter parameter one
6:11
is right here. The frequency, and of course you can also MIDI learn this, you can map it to your
6:16
keyboard if you want. So if I were to play this, we should see LFO 2, which is this right here
6:22
modulating the filter. And it looks like it's going to be opening it up by plus 10
6:27
and they're modulating it at a dotted eighth note, oops, dotted eighth note rate using this
6:33
waveform here. So let's listen to this. You can see the filter opens up there. Actually
6:39
So we got several, this actually filter is being modulated by several different things
6:44
You can see LFO one is also modulating it and we could add some more modulation to that
6:48
if we wanted to. So we could say we use LFO three since that's not being used
6:53
And why don't we do actually the filter drive. So is that filter parameter three
7:09
Thank you you can hear that doing a little bit every eighth note here it bringing up the drive a
7:23
little bit so it's adding some of that saturation so obviously you don't have to do that there's
7:29
lots of different ways to modulate but it's really easy to do in here and you see you can create a lot of awesome, interesting sounds, in addition to just using the presets. So that is the
7:37
edit panel, but we also have the effects panel here, and Synthronic comes with 71 different effects
7:43
which is pretty awesome. So you can further color your sound, and you don't have to worry about
7:47
adding in a bunch of extra plugins. You can kind of get the sound you want right here
7:51
inside of the synth itself. So by default, it has a channel strip plugin here. It has a flanger
7:56
tape echo, vintage plate, and then a compressor. So that's interesting. So if we listen to this
8:02
adjust these settings. That's pretty cool if you want more of the flanger effects
8:16
And of course, this can all be automated as well. You can map it to your DAW, your keyboard
8:19
and draw in this automation here if you wanted to automate these controls
8:27
That's pretty cool. Let's crank up the reverb to make a huge reverb sound
8:35
That's pretty cool
8:45
We can add in some other effects here. You can see they're all organized here
8:51
You got different kinds of reverb and delay you can add on here. Wow, that'd be cool for some kind of apocalyptic sounding sci-fi
9:33
As you can see, there's so much control in here, so many effects you can throw in all
9:37
these different EQs. A lot of them, again, based on vintage EQs, which is pretty awesome
9:43
Also compressors in here, like the 2A and the 76. Also got the British channel in here, which is based on the SSL console channel strip
9:51
So if you want to get that classic SSL saturation, as well as being able to add in some EQ
9:57
that's pretty cool. And of course, if you have any adjustments you make, you want to save these as presets
10:01
you can do that as well. And I also have some interesting filters as well
10:06
So we have a wah filter here. So cool and there's endless possibilities here
10:37
You can definitely get lost in this with all the different possibilities that are available
10:41
to you. You also have the player panel here So if you want to turn this into an arpeggiator you can do that as well
10:53
Obviously, this probably isn't the best sound for that. What if we did a pluck
10:58
and of course we can extend this range if we want and we can draw in different random levels
11:16
here if we want so if we just have on straight arp it will not play this sequence let's do a
11:22
regular but you can also choose sequence and that will play this sequence
11:31
You can adjust the length here. And the last thing you can check out is you actually have the interface of the
11:40
synthesizer here for really quick controls. If you're wanting to control this, you got your cutoff, you got your resonance
11:47
You got several different types of filters to choose from here. You got your oscillators, your envelope controls here
12:11
And now I can turn this pluck into more of a stab. Of course you can choose poly or mono or different legato options here
12:23
And of course you got your modulation over here too. So say we wanted to modulate the filter
12:28
You can use a sine wave and we'll use BPM sync. So now it's modulating this cutoff filter here
12:41
So you get the idea. Now let's just listen to some presets here, I guess, for the lead, just so you can get
12:47
And I do have some more of the sounds that are available in here. Thank you
13:47
Man, I tell you what, this is an awesome plugin. And if you're creating any kind of music that
13:55
involves og synthesizers like Synthwave, then you definitely should pick this up
13:59
